Our Stone Consolidation Services
We use specialist stone consolidation techniques to stabilise weakened and deteriorating masonry while retaining as much of the original material as possible.
Before recommending treatment, we assess the stone type, its condition and the likely cause of deterioration. This allows us to determine whether consolidation is suitable or whether repair or replacement would achieve a better result.
When Stone Consolidation May Be Required
Natural stone can gradually lose strength through weather exposure, freeze thaw, moisture, salts, pollution and previous inappropriate repairs.
Signs of deterioration may include:
- Flaking or powdering surfaces
- Crumbling or friable stone
- Loss of carved detail
- Surface erosion
- Splitting or delamination
- Loose areas of masonry

Not every damaged stone is suitable for consolidation. The type of stone, its condition and the cause of deterioration must all be considered before treatment begins.
Our experienced stonemasons assess each project individually to determine whether the stone can be conserved or whether repair or replacement would provide a more appropriate result.

Stone consolidation may form one part of a broader programme of restoration and conservation work.
Depending on the building, this could also include localised stone repairs, lime pointing, replacement masonry and work to address the underlying cause of deterioration.
